Southwest kicks mom, cranky kid off Calif. flight

2-year-old’s ‘Go! Plane! Go!’ and ‘I want Daddy’ screams too much for crew

The Associated Press
updated 1:23 p.m. PT, Fri., Oct . 30, 2009

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Kids will be kids, but one cranky 2-year-old was acting too much his age for a Southwest Airlines flight crew who kicked him off a plane getting ready to leave for San Jose.

Pamela Root says she was confident her son Adam's screams of “Go! Plane! Go!” and “I want Daddy!” would subside once the plane took off Monday in Amarillo, Texas.

But she says the plane taxied back to the gate and the pair was escorted off.

The 38-year-old stay-at-home mom wants an apology and compensation for the portable crib and diapers she had to buy for the extra night away from home.

Southwest spokeswoman Marilee McInnis says removing a crying child from a flight is unusual, but crews have leeway to resolve situations.

McInnis says the airline is looking into the incident.

Well, If I were sitting in close vicinity, I would count my blessings at the pilot's decision.

I flew some time ago on a small 6 passenger puddle jumper. No door between cockpit and passengers.
In front of me, directly behind Co pilot, sat a 5 year old. On the seat across from me, and behind the Pilot, sat the Proud Papa of said child.

Proud Papa said he wanted Child to see how Pilots flew the airplane.

Child fiddled with everything within reach, including the latch could release the EXIT thing on the window next to him. He bounced in his seat, leaned up and tried to look over Co pilot's shoulder...tried to put his hand between Pilot and Co pilots seats to reach in...praise heaven Child/s hands were too short.

We were flying thru such dense fog that even the angels couldn't see where they were flying.

Papa was busy reading a magazine. The Pilots were intent on the cockpit.

Dear hearts and gentle people, when that Child kept on fiddling with that Exit thing, I finally lost my cool.

I leaned around the back of his seat, tapped him on the arm and said in my very best School Teacher Voice: STOP THAT.

I got a dirty look from Papa...but the Child settled down, at least he kept his hands off the window area.

Children should be taught to behave in public, even at age 2.

Somebody had to show that kid a little civil behavior. Very Happy I mean, what if he would have opened the exit door? Shocked
